An awesome interview with Andy Hieke!

What has been the best moment working at Nimbus Games so far?

Well there have been more than one.  It is exciting every time we release a game, every time we see a 5 star review, every time we receive an email saying how great the games are.  We take none of this for granted even though there are a billion apps out there.

How long have you been working at Nimbus Games?

I founded Nimbus Games 4 years ago.

Why was the Nimbus Logo Changed from blue to Red?

Nimbus Games started by developing and publishing games on Facebook. Facebook’s color scheme is primarily blue. I think that is why our logo started off in blue. When we ‘pivoted’ to focus on mobile games we thought a new fresh color was appropriate.

Why was the name Nimbus Games chosen?

Nimbus Games was chosen because we make games that are all delivered by the cloud, no physical goods. Nimbus is not only the name of a cloud but also a deity visiting earth. We thought, that’s cool.

What was your first game ever made/developed at Nimbus Games

Our first game was a Facebook game called ‘Bounty Quest Mystery’. Starting Monday, each day of the week, players could play a unique hidden object game. When they finished the game they received a clue about a location. Monday’s clue was for a Country, Tuesday’s for a State or Province within that Country, Wednesday’s a City within the State, Thursday’s an object, Friday  a famous person and Saturday, the location of a specific place. The first person to submit the correct answer each week won a cash prize. The game was very well received however we simply couldn’t get enough people playing the game to make it viable.

Who thought of the name Nimbus Games?

I did

Which game is your favorite?

That is a tough question. I like them all for different reasons.

Why were Humongous Entertainment games something you worked with at Nimbus Games?

From the year 2000 to 2005 I was the GM of the Humongous Entertainment studio. The incredible talent of the folks that worked there is undeniable. One fine day we thought, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could revitalize these games and re-publish to a new audience on new mobile devices…. So we did.

How many people work at Nimbus Games?

We have a core of experts here in the US and we also work with teams from the Ukraine,
Malaysia, Canada and India. The number of people varies with how many projects we are
working on at any one time.

Will Nimbus Games do anymore games beyond the HE games?
Yes we are currently working on several news games including Casino games, Hidden Object
Games and multiplayer arcade style games.

How do you feel about Tommo, Inc. acquiring the license from Atari?
To be honest, we feel a little deflated, not because of Tommo at all. We did make an offer to
purchase the IP from Atari, it simply wasn’t big enough. We have invested heavily, financially
and emotionally into bringing these games back to life for a new audience. We wish Tommo the
very best of luck in continuing on the journey we started. With the increased International
resources Tommo has on hand, we hope they also become part of the family to preserve and re-
introduce what we think are the best children’s games available today.

Will Nimbus Games ever develop/publish HE games again?
We are working with Tommo to transition the games to fall under their publishing umbrella and
hopefully we can collaborate to bring back all the wonderful games from the catalog.
